“The General portrait of Buddy is absolutely hilarious and beautifully done. The attention to detail is amazing. Already ordering one for my sister's dog.”

About This Style

The Nameplate takes the oldest move in luxury and points it at your pet: put the name on the jewellery. A heavy Cuban link chain sits at the throat, and hanging from it, set in brilliant cut stones, is your pet's own name in block capitals. Above it, a crown.

The reference is a photograph taken in 1997: a rapper in a cheap plastic crown against a wall of pure colour, shot in a few minutes at the end of a session, and now one of the most reproduced portraits in music. It works because there is no irony in it. The subject looks straight down the lens and dares you to find it funny.

That is exactly what happens when the subject is a dog or a cat. The crown should be ridiculous. The chain should be too much. Instead the whole thing lands as a genuine portrait of somebody who has never once doubted their own importance, which is a fair description of most pets.

The colour behind them is doing real work. A flat saturated field with nothing in it throws every edge of fur forward and makes the metal read as metal. There is no room, no furniture, no window, nothing to look at except the animal and the jewellery.

It is the loudest thing we make, and it is built to be the first thing anyone notices in the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my pet's actual name appear on the chain?

Yes. The name you type at the upload step is what gets set in stones on the pendant. Because the name is the product here rather than decoration, it is required for this style where it is optional everywhere else. This and Ice Cold are the only styles in our catalogue where lettering appears in the artwork at all.

What if my pet has a very long name?

Shorter names sit best on a pendant, the same way they do on real nameplate jewellery. Longer names still work, but the letters get finer. You will see the portrait before anything is printed, so if the lettering is not sitting the way you want it, tell us and we will keep refining it with you.

Does this style work for cats?

It works particularly well for cats. The pose is squared to the camera with a level, unbothered gaze, which is a cat's natural default. Long haired cats also carry a heavy chain beautifully because the metal disappears into the coat and then catches the light.
