How it works

  1. 1. Send one photo

A phone photo in daylight is ideal. Your pet's face in focus, roughly at their eye level. No special equipment and no photo session.

  2. 2. Pick the look

Renaissance royalty, a military uniform, a fantasy knight, a clean modern study. The style decides the costume and the setting. Your pet's face stays your pet's face.

  3. 3. Approve, then it prints

8 versions reach you within 24 hours. Ask for changes as many rounds as it takes. Nothing goes to print until you say yes.

Which of your photos to use

This is the only part that is really up to you, and it decides most of the result. You do not need a good camera. You need a photo where the face is readable.

Works well

  • Daylight, ideally near a window or outdoors
  • Taken at your pet's eye level, not from above
  • The face in focus and filling a good part of the frame
  • Looking toward the camera, or nearly

Makes it harder

  • Deep shadow or a hard flash across the face
  • Your pet small in a wide shot
  • Motion blur around the eyes and nose
  • A screenshot of a photo, rather than the photo

If you are not sure the photo is good enough, send it anyway. We look at it before anything is made, and we say so if a different photo would be better.

Choose what the photo becomes

There are more than seventy styles in the full collection, including memorial portraits, dog portraits and portraits made as gifts.

Questions about sending a photo

What kind of photo works best for a pet portrait?
A clear, well-lit photo taken at your pet's eye level. Daylight near a window beats a flash. The face should be in focus and facing roughly toward the camera, and the whole head should be in frame. Phone photos are completely fine, and most of the portraits on this site started as one. What does not work is a photo where the face is blurred, in deep shadow, or very small in the frame, because no process can add detail that the photo never captured.
How many photos do I need to send?
One is enough. You can add more if you have them, and a second angle helps with an unusual coat pattern or a long muzzle, but a single good photo is all that is required to start.
How long does it take to turn a photo into a portrait?
You see 8 versions within 24 hours of ordering. You pick the one you want, and you can ask for changes as many rounds as it takes, with no limit and no extra charge. Nothing is printed until you approve it. Digital files arrive as soon as you approve. Canvas and framed prints ship after that and typically arrive within 7 to 10 business days.
Will the portrait still look like my pet?
That is the part we do not compromise on. The portrait is built around your pet's actual face from your photo, not a generic animal of the same breed wearing a costume. Markings, colouring and expression carry across. If the first versions do not look like your pet to you, say so and we redo it. That is what the revision rounds are for.
Can you do a photo of two pets together?
Yes. Send a photo with both pets in it, or a clear photo of each, and say which portrait style you want them in. Some styles are designed for a pair and others work best with one subject, so it is worth asking before you order if you are unsure.
What does a pet portrait from a photo cost?
A digital download is $29.99 and is the same artwork as every other tier, sized to print cleanly up to 16x20 inches. Poster prints start at $39.99, premium canvas at $69.99, and framed prints at $79.99. Every tier includes the same proof and the same revision rounds.
