The General

The General is our most decorated military portrait and one of our most popular styles across all categories. Your pet appears in a dark navy dress uniform covered in medals of honor, gold epaulettes catching the light of a battlefield command tent, a red sash across the chest that has been earned rather than borrowed. The artistic reference is Jacques-Louis David, the painter who made Napoleon look inevitable rather than short.

What this style captures is the quality that everyone who owns a large, protective dog already recognizes: the animal takes their responsibilities seriously. A Doberman does not sit by the door because they were told to. A German Shepherd does not put themselves between their person and a stranger because they calculated the risk. They do it because it is what they do. The General portrait acknowledges that. It gives formal recognition to the command presence that was already there.

The composition works at a scale that demands a proper canvas. The background (maps spread across a campaign table, a dramatic sky above the tent flaps, the distant suggestion of troops) is as important as the uniform.
