About This Style
Colour Story is the one style in the line where your pet is shown head to toe and actually dressed, in a tailored coat, against a block of colour chosen to fight with it.
The look comes from contemporary fashion editorial, where a photographer puts a single figure in a saturated outfit in front of a saturated wall and lets the two colours argue. Chartreuse against cobalt. Hot pink against teal. There is no set, no props and no gradient. The floor and the wall are one continuous sweep of a single colour, so the animal appears to be standing inside the colour rather than in front of it.
The wardrobe is genuine tailoring rather than a costume: a properly cut coat with a collar and a knotted silk scarf at the throat. Nothing about it is trying to make the animal look like a person. It is trying to make the animal look styled, which is a different and much better joke.
Because this is a full length pose, it reads completely differently from our head and shoulders styles. You get the stance, the tail, the way the legs are set. Owners tend to recognise their pet in a full length shot in a way a close crop never quite captures, because so much of how you know your own animal is how it stands.
It is the brightest thing we make, and the one that does the most for a plain wall.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my pet be shown standing, or as a head and shoulders portrait?
Full length, with the whole body in frame. It is the only style in the Luxury line built that way, which is why it reads so differently from the rest of the catalogue.
Can I choose the colours?
Yes. We pick a pairing that sets off your pet's own coat to begin with. When your first versions arrive, name the colours you want for the coat and the background and we will take it there. Nothing is printed until you approve it.
Does a full length pose need a different photo from you?
A clear photo of your pet's face is still the most important thing, because that is what has to be recognisably them. A full body shot helps us get the stance and proportions right, so send one if you have it, but it is not essential.
