“The General portrait of Buddy is absolutely hilarious and beautifully done. The attention to detail is amazing. Already ordering one for my sister's dog.”

About This Style

Not the celebration. The quiet minute afterwards.

Chin lifted, calm, looking straight down the lens. A plain gold medal on a simple ribbon hangs at the chest, the face of it completely blank. Behind, a locker room: wooden bench, lockers, a single warm overhead light, everything softly out of focus. It is deliberately the moment after the noise rather than during it, because a picture of an animal mid celebration is funny once and a picture of an animal looking quietly proud is something you can live with.

The medal is blank on purpose. Engraving invites a date, a name or a competition, and every one of those pins the piece to a moment that passes. Blank, it reads as achievement generally, which is why this ends up being bought for graduations, recoveries, adoptions and last agility seasons as often as anything sporting.

We invent the ribbon colour and reproduce no real club, competition, kit or governing body mark, for the same reason Game Day carries no crest.

Painterly realism with visible brushwork keeps it from tipping into novelty. This is a portrait of a serious animal who happens to have won something, and the humour, such as it is, comes entirely from how straight it is played.

It is the best thing we make for a dog who has genuinely earned it, and it is very good for cats who already believe they have.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you engrave a name or date on the medal?

The medal is deliberately blank. Engraving ties the piece to one moment, and most people find it reads better as a general statement about the animal. If you want lettering, we would rather add it on the reverse of a gift card than on the artwork.

Can it show a specific competition or club?

No. We do not reproduce real competitions, clubs, kits or governing body marks. The ribbon colour is invented and can be matched to colours you name in the order comments.

Does this work for a cat?

Extremely well, and it is funnier for it. The style is played completely straight, and a cat looking quietly certain that the medal was always going to be theirs is the best version of this portrait.
